About host family

 

Host family which conceit Host father mother brothers and sisters where a volunteer will stay for the number of days he/she is going to be in the country.

The host families are very caring and concern about the volunteer living with them. they teacher

 

 

 

The person what ever he/she need to know in Ghanaian culture. A volunteer will be living in a sprat room in the house. With all the vitalities in the room. A volunteer can use all

Like to eat. Or if you want to cook it your self your host family will teacher you how to proper Ghanaian dish. Or

You can do it with your host sisters. The

WORKING PLACE FOR A VOLUNTEER a volunteer can choice to work any place he/she want to work as a volunteer.

Places like hospitals schools orphanages and so for. The organization will visit you. At your work to find out if you are comfortable with your job you had choosing for yourself the organization will the fore tread you The job you think you can do and is difficult to you. PRIMARY SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

 

One class room contends over fifty children. With one teacher the teacher state teaching. From seven am to one o’clock pm. and with other activities in the school

 

ORPHANAGE ACTIVITIES

At the orphanage they are baby from one week old up to five years old these children need a lot of assistance. So people with humanity are always around them. To give them the necessary assistance. Like Cleaning them feeding and all the assistance that a baby need to get from the mother.

HOSPITAL ACTIVITIE

As we all know what a worker is doing over there at the hospital the organization volunteers who are already hospital workers from where ever they are coming from. Is always easy for them. Some volunteer are not hospital workers already. But they will like to work at the hospital. For that mate the organization is taking them to clinic where are no a lot patient. Where the organization think it be easy for that kind parson also

 

PICKING THE VOLUTEER COMING TO THE ORGANASATION

The organization will pick up the volunteer at the air port that means the organization will surely wait for the new coming volunteer at the air port. To make sure that the volunteer will not face any problem because that is volunteer first time in the country as well as is the organization responsibility to protect and make sure the volunteer with the organization is safe in Accra the organization will stay with the volunteer in Accra for thee night so that he/she will rest and live in capital of Ghana and see the movement in Accra the organization will take the volunteer to tours attractions in Accra. Place like beach and museum.

The organization as to decide to join the Ghana health service to deal with guinea worm because there are a lot of children surfing from guinea worm disease And is the organization responsibility to make children around the north happy or to support any child that needs support

GUINEA WORM DISEASE TRASMISSION

Guinea worm disease is contracted when stagnant water. Contaminated with microscopic water fleas carrying infective larvae, is consumed inside a human’s abdomen. Guinea worm larvae mature and grow some as long as three feet after a year the guinea worm slowly emerges through an agonizingly painful blister in the skin guinea worm can take up to two months to be completely remove and even then secondary infections may occur victims often immerse their limbs in water seeking relief from the burning sensation caused by emerging guinea worm and thus re-contaminate drinking water

Education and low –technology measure to promote behavioral change are the most effective means of preventing guinea worm disease the guinea worm disease cycle can be stopped in many ways preventing persons with an emerging guinea worm from entering sources of Drinking water. Constructing boreholes or deep wells treating water with a chemical called. ABATE? LARVICIDE; and filtering or boiling all drinking water filtering water is highly effective for reducing guinea worm disease especially when coupled with other strategies. Such as health education,

VOLUNTARY INFORMATION

Volunteer can attend this project anytime of the year and will be trained by a staff member of the guinea worm organization they will get training from the guinea worm department in tamale before they are sent out to the village. The organization volunteers will work together with a local volunteer these mostly students from UDS. Who are studying developmental studies or healthcare studies?

The volunteer will stay in the village where they be working The organization provides the volunteer a host family the circumstances are mostly poor and without any facilities there are villages where there is no electricity or running water volunteer should be prepared to live in this circumstances

 

The main task of the volunteer will be

. Training the local citizens how to treat water before drinking

. Training to achieve behavioral changes

. Training the locals how they can prevent the guinea worm disease

. Giving health education

REQUIREMENTS

The volunteer is willing to stay in rural area under primitive circumstances the volunteer has outstanding social skills and is able to community with children as well as elders the volunteer has a great feeling of responsibility and is initiative a-taking

 

ACCMMDATION TO THE PARTICIPANTS

The organization is having thee types of accommodations. Living with host family, staying in guesthouse, living in the apartment, traditional house

HOST FAMILY

A nice way of getting to know the culture and the daily life of people in the northern Ghana is staying with a family in their home these are local families with normal standard homes in the families an own room light, water toilet and bath is available in some part of northern Ghana running water or electricity is not available at any time. Some areas are restricted to a couple of running water or electricity per day or sometimes per week

TRADITIONAL HOUSE

Participants who work in the rural areas with the opportunity to stay in a traditional round house with a family are more primitive then the normal house but conveniently cool in the nights there is usually no running water or electricity but there is so much hospitality from the local people that you won’t ever notice it the participant will usually live in a special compound for themselves but close to a family of the community who will guide and cook for them

GUESTHOUSE

In northern Ghana are a lot of guesthouses of varying standards and prices. Upon request the organization will organize a type of participant preference in the surroundings of tamale there is also the opportunity to stay in a small apartment living like this will take more care of themselves

 

CONDITIONS

1)    all applicants must be 18 of age or above

2)    the duration of the voluntary program is flexible but a minimum of two months to maximum of one year id preferable the duration of other project is more flexible and depend on the type of project and the concerned participant the duration and intensity of stay is negotiated upon ideally before participant arrival

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARTICIPANT

3)    Participant themselves will organize visa, flight ticket vaccinations, insurance and other required document country coordinators will do their best to be of help when need

4)    Participant will responsible for themselves during their in Ghana

5)    Participant will stand for all their additional costs while in Ghana

6)    The organization program fee plus the costs for the host family need to be with organization at least two months prior to departure

7)    After the selection of the participants they are required to attend a preparation meeting home country organize by country coordinator

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ORGANIZATION

8)    For participant who attend the voluntary program the organization has the responsibility to a workplace and host family. The participant who attends an education program the organization has the responsibility to arrange the program and find the participant a host family. The organization will always be available to help with that is possible and to answer question
