7. VHIGHANA was found in the year 1999 by Disabled people to
fight issues that militate
against People With Disabilities.
HOW WE GOT STARTED We informed all interested persons with
developmental disabilities in the area, initially very few people with
need children showed interest but as we kept meeting regularly, we are now many.
WHY we thought it was prudent
we formed the VHIsGHANA because, we
needed to develop common and stronger front which can be used to channel our concern(s)
to the appropriate authorities for support since, PWDs were hugely marginalized
in Northern Region of Ghana.
MISSION OR PURPOSE
[if !supportLists]ü [endif]VHIsGHANA is aimed at fighting all
forms of discrimination against persons with out hope especially in the
area of; social justice, economic justice, political justice and employment justice.
[if !supportLists]ü [endif]APWDsGHANA is the mouth piece of the
cross disability fraternity in the area and beyond.
[if !supportLists]ü [endif]VHIsGHANA is providing assertiveness training
to VHIs so as to enable them seek for the right thing(s) to be done at all
times.

8. Savelugu-Nanton
District Assembly (SNDA) a
government representative at the local government level and the Department of
Social Welfare also a government representative on social matters, are our
partners who offer advisory role(s) only.

9. Disabled women worldwide have been described as being doubly
marginalized because of their disability and gender standings in
society. In view of these, APWDsGHANA has
placed enormous importance in matters of disabled women’s progress, and has
therefore made the position of the Chairperson of the VHIsGHANA a preserve of disabled women. It is gratifying to add that, the current chairperson a (needy childre)
Woman) has contributed immensely in the formulation of this proposal.

10. The project
when completed will go a long way to benefit the cross disability
fraternity of the area and beyond.

and political justice for people with disabilities.

13. Arrangements have
been made for the smooth take off of the Resource Centre Project. Land has already been acquired; communal labour and Time on the monitoring of the project
will all be provided from the 10% contribution from APWDsGHANA.

16. Adequate
steps will be taken to ensure funds safety since a three member committee will
be set up to preside over the expenditure process. These members are comprised
of the Chairperson Kubura Alassan (Disabled woman) the Coordinator Abdul
Mumin Mohammed (Disabled person) and the programs Manager Mohammed
Shani (Disabled Person). Also the handling of the funds will be the
collective responsibility of the three member committee. Funds will be kept in Ghana Commercial Bank Tamale Branch, Ghana
Apart, from the contributions from members of the APWDsGHANA which are used as revolving
funds sort of, to loan members especially who received training in their
various fields of endeavors, to enable start up businesses. Also the financial
committee has always provided us with accurate financial report. Further more,
if funds are approved for the project, we hope to rely on the Savelugu-Nanton
District Assembly (SNDA) to provide
us with government certified Auditors to support us in the financial
managements process.

17. The
Management structure of the APWDsGHANA consists of the following;

[if !supportLists]ü [endif]EXECUTIVE BOARD; Here we have four (4)
representatives from the cross disability society namely, GSPD, GNAD, GAB and
APGCWDs constituting the Executive board which is currently headed by the
Chairperson, (Kubura Alassan). At this level meetings of the association’s
importance are held, to advice the Administrative Executives on how to run the
activities of the association.

EXECUTIVES; Is comprised of the Coordinator, the Programs Manager, the
Accounts Officer and the Secretary. Headed by the Coordinator, also, the
structure is responsible for the day to day running of the APWDsGHANA.

[endif]COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES;
Here we have six (6) representatives from the six main communities of which
the APWDsGHANA operates. They communicate to the Administrative Executives how
events are thriving in their various constituencies or communities.

have developed ties with the following governmental institutions;
SONGAYILI MERTOPOLITAN SERMBLY OF NRTHERN GHANA a representative of government at the
local government level and the Department of Social Welfare another government
representative on social matters at the local government level.
